LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELOR

Hi, I’m Brittany (she/her)— a queer, Asian American identified therapist for millennials and Gen-Zers. I provide individual therapy in-person at my office in Virginia Beach. I also offer virtual therapy to Virginia residents. I specialize in working with those who are navigating motherhood, people-pleasing, relationship/dating issues, and high-functioning anxiety. I’m LGBTQIA+ affirming, celebrate body neutrality, and love helping clients explore sexuality and identity. My work is guided by inclusivity, anti-racism, and anti-oppression.

Beginning therapy takes guts— I’m glad that you’re here!

BASED IN VIRGINIA BEACH, VA

who i work with

I work with millennials and Gen-Zers from all backgrounds who are looking for a laid-back and relatable therapist who will meet them where they’re at. My focus is on working with individuals who are navigating motherhood, dating and relationships, struggling with people-pleasing, and high-functioning anxiety. As I mom, I get it— motherhood is tough! I love supporting moms who want a therapist on their team.

I believe our work in therapy includes the knowing that there won’t be an easy, quick fix nor will every issue need or have a solution. My approach to therapy is intuitive, and person-centered meaning I believe that you know yourself best and I invite you to challenge yourself in this space. I will provide you with support, empathetic understanding, a few laughs, and honest guidance.

I believe that therapy should be accessible and sustainable. If you do not have insurance or I do not currently accept your insurance, please reference the Anti-Oppressive Rate Structure offered. Please note that solidarity and reparations slots are limited.

My story

Before I was a counselor, I was a client (and I still am). I was in a soul-sucking career that no longer served me, so I decided to finally pursue becoming a therapist. As an Asian American and queer woman, I wanted folks with minority identities to feel seen in a therapeutic space. I know from my experience in therapy that the work can be difficult, but the strength and understanding you gain is worth it. As a therapist, I incorporate resources I learn about through my community, humor, and don’t mind sharing relatable parts of myself with my clients (as long as they feel comfortable). Some of my lived experiences include being queer, neurodivergent, being a mother, the eldest daughter, and the struggles of PMDD.

When I’m not in the chair, I enjoy spending time with my family, being in nature, and trying new restaurants/coffee shops (although I confess that I only drink decaf). I value serving my community and view servitude as an act of hope. I enjoy learning new things, so I listen to podcasts, read, and watch my comfort shows (Parks & Recreation, The Office, and Modern Family) in my free time.

Two of my favorite podcasts: Shrink Chicks and Cheaper Than Therapy

FAQ’S

  • I’m currently accepting the following insurance plans:

    • Sentara (Commercial & Medicaid)

    • Aetna (Commerical)

  • Please reference the Anti-Oppressive Rate structure in the section above.

  • Insurance companies require me to diagnose my clients after just one session. Not using insurance provides more privacy and autonomy over your mental healthcare. I believe many symptoms are actually valid, healthy responses to systemic oppression or life transitions in this climate and do not require you to have a “disorder.” By not using insurance we have the ability to co-create a treatment plan that actually aligns with your life—whether that means longer sessions, more frequent meetings during crises, or using holistic and culturally specific modalities.

  • You will receive intake paperwork via email that must be completed before booking your first session.

  • During the first session I will spend time briefly reviewing the intake paperwork and attendance policy. I will spend a majority of the time getting to know you and learning more about the concerns that brought you to therapy. Please feel free to ask questions or bring topics/concerns you’d like to cover.

  • I provide therapy with a client-led approach. Meaning that you know yourself best and know what you need to focus on. I will trust that you will come to each session with a topic or concern that you would like to address. You will have the autonomy to set the pace and tell me what you want from your sessions.

I want you to feel comfortable. Feel free to take your shoes off, put your feet up, bring a comfort item to sessions, and curse as much as you need to. This is your time!

  • My office is located in Virginia Beach, VA. The building is off of Virginia Beach Blvd near the Kings Grant area.

  • We will meet weekly or bi-weekly and reassess frequency after 3~4 months.

  • It happens! Sometimes it takes a few tries to find the right therapist. If we’re not a good fit I can provide a list of referrals to other clinicians/practices in the area.

  • The length of time that each client spends in therapy is different depending on their unique needs. Once you feel confident enough to discuss no longer attending therapy, we will collaborate on a discharge plan. I recommend a closure session for us to reflect on your time in therapy. Ending therapy can be difficult but closure can provide comfort.
